In a recent development concerning Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification hearing, the ad-hoc division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will now deliver its verdict on the appeal filed by the Indian wrestler today.
This decision will be announced at 6 pm local time (9:30 pm IST). Meanwhile, the hearing got concluded in Paris on Friday, after CAS accepted Vinesh’s appeal regarding her disqualification for being 100 grams overweight on the morning of her final match against Sarah Ann Hildebrandt of USA.

In its statement, CAS said, “By application of Article 18 of the CAS Arbitration Rules for the Olympic Games, the President of the CAS Ad Hoc Division extends the time limit for the Panel to give a decision until 10 August 2024 at 18:00 (Paris time).”
Earlier, the ad-hoc division (constituted for dispute resolution) revealed that the decision on this matter would be issued before the conclusion of the Paris Olympics.
Reaction of IOA
Following the appeal hearing, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is hopeful for a “positive resolution” of the matter.
In a statement on Friday, the IOA said, “The Indian Olympic Association remains hopeful of a positive resolution of wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s application before the Ad Hoc Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against her failed weigh-in.”

For those unfamiliar, during the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024, Vinesh Phogat filed an appeal after being replaced in the final by Cuban wrestler Yusneylis Guzman Lopez (whom Vinesh had defeated in the semifinals).
In her appeal, Vinesh requested that she be awarded a joint silver medal with Lopez, as she had adhered to the prescribed weight limit during her fight on Tuesday. Her case is being represented by lawyers Harish Salve and Vidushpat Singhania.
