A 10-man Indian hockey team achieved a remarkable victory over Great Britain in the first quarterfinal of the men’s hockey tournament at the Paris Olympics on Sunday, August 4. The match, which ended 1-1 in regular time, saw India excel in the shootout, clinching a stunning 4-2 win.

The Indian team faced a setback when Amit Rohidas received a red card in the second minute of the second quarter, leaving them a man short. Despite this, the Tokyo 2020 bronze medalists did not falter and scored in the 22nd minute. After earning a penalty corner, India’s captain Harmanpreet Singh opened the scoring, putting the team ahead 1-0.

The already short-handed Indian team faced increased pressure in the third quarter as Great Britain intensified their attack. The British side earned several penalty corners and controlled much of the play. However, the legendary PR Sreejesh stood firm in goal, making numerous saves to keep India in the game.

The situation worsened when Sumit received a green card in the final moments of the quarter, resulting in a two-minute suspension that extended into the start of the final quarter.
