Paris Olympics 2024: Lovlina Borgohain’s Village Prays for Success

Ahead of Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain’s opening match against Sunniva Hofstad in the women’s 75kg category at the Paris Olympics, residents of her native village in Assam’s Golaghat performed prayers and rituals at a temple on Wednesday, wishing for her success.

Lovlina’s father, Tiken Borgohain, expressed confidence in his daughter, stating that she is poised to deliver a strong performance. “This is Lovlina’s first bout in Paris 2024 against Norway. We are hopeful she will perform well and achieve excellent results. Her extensive training and experience since Tokyo should serve her well in the ring,” he said.

Her father also extended his gratitude to the Assam government for their support. Lovlina has been training in Patiala, with additional sessions in Italy and Germany before heading to Paris.

“The Assam government has been supportive since Tokyo. Lovlina, along with other athletes, trained in Patiala and also spent time in Italy and Germany. Her coach, the federation, and the team manager have all contributed to ensuring she received top-quality training,” he added.

“We haven’t spoken today, but we had a conversation yesterday. She might be busy today with weight checks,” her father noted.
