Indian shooters Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh made history by winning a bronze medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Tuesday.India secured its sixth Olympic medal in shooting and achieved its first-ever medal in a shooting team event with Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh’s bronze win at the Paris 2024 Olympics. This result also made Bhaker from independent India to win two medals in a single Olympic games. Earlier on Sunday she became the first Indian woman to earn an Olympic shooting medal.Competing at the National Shooting Center in Chateauroux, Bhaker and Singh triumphed over Republic of Korea’s Oh Ye Jin and Wonho Lee with a score of 16-10 in the bronze medal match. Oh Ye Jin had won the gold medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event on Sunday.

Manu Bhaker made a strong start with a 10.2 on her opening shot. Despite Sarabjot Singh’s initial 8.6 costing India the first two points, he quickly bounced back with scores of 10.5, 10.4 and 10 to helping India secure the next six points.

Manu Bhaker scored at least a 10 on her first seven shots, but Oh Ye Jin’s consistent performance kept South Koreans in contention. Despite falling behind 8-2, they managed to close the gap to 14-10.

In the final moments, Oh Ye Jin, the Olympic champion, scored a 9 on her final shot while her partner achieved a 9.5. Manu Bhaker shot a 9.4 but Sarabjot Singh’s a 10.2 secured the bronze medal for India.

The Indian pair hit 19 of their 26 shots hit at least a 10, compared to South Koreans’ 12 such shots.Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh on Monday came on third to qualify for the bronze medal match, behind Turkiye’s Sevval Ilayda Tarhan-Yusuf Dikec and Serbia’s Zorana Arunovic-Damir Mikec, who will play for gold later in the day.Top two teams from the field of 17 qualified for the gold medal match while the third and fourth-placed teams played for bronze.

Manu Bhaker will also compete in the women’s 25m pistol event, scheduled to start on Friday. She is the only athlete from the 21-member Indian shooting team to participate in multiple individual events.
