Viktor Axelsen Clinches Gold In Men’s Singles At Paris Olympics, Marking A Historic Repeat Victory

Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen successfully defended his men’s singles title at the Paris Olympics, securing victory over Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the final on Monday. Axelsen, the world number two, displayed exceptional dominance throughout the match, winning in straight sets with scores of 21-11, 21-11.

By retaining his title, Axelsen becomes only the second player to achieve back-to-back gold medals in the men’s singles category, following the legendary Chinese shuttler Lin Dan, who won in Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

Axelsen reached the final after defeating India’s Lakshya Sen in the semifinals. Despite Lakshya’s competitive performance and a promising lead at 15-9 in the first game, Axelsen’s resilience and skill led him to win the first game 22-20 and the second game 21-14, advancing to the gold medal match in a 54-minute battle.

Lakshya Sen’s campaign ended on a disappointing note as he narrowly missed out on the bronze medal, finishing fourth in the men’s singles event. Sen was close to making history as the first Indian shuttler to win an Olympic medal in men’s singles but fell short after losing 21-13, 16-21, 11-21 to Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia.
