Vinesh Phogat triumphed over Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman in the women’s 50kg wrestling semifinal at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday, securing a medal for India. She will compete for the gold medal on Wednesday.
Competing in this weight category for the first time, Vinesh achieved a 5-0 victory by points, making history as the first Indian woman to reach an Olympic wrestling final.

Vinesh earned her first point through a passivity penalty in the first round. In the second round, she received a passivity warning, which she converted into four additional points.
Earlier, Vinesh stunned defending champion Yui Susaki of Japan in the round of 16 and subsequently defeated Ukraine’s Oksana Livach in the quarterfinals.
