Delhi Public School R.K. Puram proudly presented the Inter-School Theatre Festival, Theatron 2024-2025, organized by the Expressions Theatre Club. The club members, fueled by a consistent “Thirst for Theatre,” worked under the expert guidance of Principal Ms. Padma Srinivasan and Teacher-in-Charge Ms. Sanya Taneja. Renowned for their commitment to discipline, creativity, and ambition, the club has made a mark in the school theatre circuit.
Theatron 2024 stood as a beacon of expression, showcasing boundless dramaturgical talent. This grand festival attracted students from nearly 50 schools across Delhi NCR and other parts of the country. The fest featured 12 events, allowing students from classes IX-XII to display their exceptional creative and theatrical skills, with a footfall of around 1,400 theatre enthusiasts contributing to the vibrant atmosphere.
The event presented a diverse spectrum of 12 distinct activities embodying the theme ‘Thirst for Theatre,’ including:
- Street Play (Nukkad Ki Goonj): Teams prepared a 7-minute play on a provided theme. Jury members included Jayprakash Singh and Purushottam Bhatt.
- Stage Play (Stage-a-Thon): Teams of 4-5 performed original 5-minute stage plays on various ambiguous themes, judged by Ramesh Manchanda and Mohammad Ali Shah.
- Advertisement Enactment (Ads Act): Teams created amusing advertisements for provided topics, judged by Joginder Singh Panwar and Nakshatra Sachdeva.
- Shakespearean Monologue (Thespian Coliseum): Participants delivered a 2-3 minute monologue from Shakespeare’s works, judged by Harriet Raghunathan and Vaishali Chakravarty.
- Poem Enactment (Play-o-Poem): A theatrical enactment of a poem based on the theme ‘Seven Stages of Man,’ judged by Manish Bharadwaj and Shefali Chopra.
- Movie Making (Lights, Camera, Action!): An online event with submissions due by July 31, 2024, judged by Sourabh Yadav and Vikram Singh.
- Mime Act (मका ू भि नय): Participants conveyed genres like tragedy, horror, action thriller, comedy, and mystery in 3 minutes, judged by Aakriti Sethi and Namrita Sharma Jape.
- Standup Comedy: A 3-minute bilingual performance judged on humor, wit, fluency, expression, content, and creativity, with jury members Sahil Sharma and Swati Sodi.
- Dance Drama: Participants depicted dramatic intensity through Indian or Western dance on the theme “Epic Echoes,” judged by Bali Balyogeshwar and Ankita Alemona.
- Courtroom Drama (Res Ipsa Loquitur): A 6-7 minute act in English/Hindi with props and costumes, judged by Sumit Rawal and Raj Sharma.
- Surprise Event (Bolt from the Blue): A spontaneous 2-minute act, judged by Himanshu Mam and Siddharth Shaw.
- Mimicry: A 2-3 minute act portraying a famous personality, judged by Prabhat Sengar and Mr. Ajay.
Awards were distributed by Principal Ms. Padma Srinivasan and the jury members. The overall winners were Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, and Delhi Public School, Noida. Ms. Srinivasan commended the Expressions Theatre Club’s efforts and appreciated the contributions of the teacher in charge, alumni, hostellers, and the outgoing batch of class XII.
Theatron engaged audiences and participants with thought-provoking ideas, compelling themes, and vital conversations. It blended fun with thoughtfulness, making each performance an insightful exploration and underscoring the unique essence of theatre.
