Jammu and Kashmir, January 2, 2024: A mild earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter Scale jolted the region on Tuesday, as reported by the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The seismic event occurred at 11:33 am, with its epicenter at a depth of 5 km.

The NCS posted the details on social media, stating, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 3.9, Occurred on 02-01-2024, 11:33:32 IST, Lat: 32.76 and Long: 74.57, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Jammu and Kashmir.” Further details regarding any potential damages or aftershocks are awaited.

Seismologists often classify earthquakes of this magnitude as minor, indicating that while they may be felt by people in the affected area, they are unlikely to cause significant damage. Authorities are likely to monitor the situation and assess if any precautionary measures are necessary.
