Former Odisha Minister and Seven-Time MLA Damodar Rout Passes Away

Former Odisha Minister and seven-time MLA Damodar Rout passed away at a private hospital in Bhubaneshwar on Friday morning. His demise has left a void in Odisha politics, with leaders across party lines expressing their grief over the loss.

Rout’s mortal remains will be taken to his government residence at Unit-6 in Bhubaneswar, where his well-wishers will pay their last respects to the veteran leader, according to sources.

His son, BJD MLA Sambit Routray, shared his sentiments, stating, “I thought his health was improving, but he left us all this morning. We will now take his body to his home, then to the party office and later to his constituency at Kujang, Paradip, and if time permits, we will take him to Ersama as well.”

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his sorrow over Rout’s demise, acknowledging his contributions to Odisha politics and service to the people. Patnaik wrote on X, “This is an irreparable loss in Odisha politics. His work for the service and betterment of the people will always be remembered. May his soul rest in peace, and my condolences to the bereaved family members.”

Senior Congress leader Narasingha Mishra also mourned the loss, highlighting Rout’s dedication as a politician and his contributions during his tenure as MLA and Minister.

Former Union Minister Dilip Ray paid tribute to Rout, acknowledging his significant contributions to Odisha politics and service to the people. Ray wrote on X, “His contributions to Odisha politics and service to the people will always be remembered. May Mahaprabhu Jagannath grant eternal peace to the departed soul.”

Damodar Rout served as an MLA for seven consecutive terms, representing both Erasma and Paradip Assembly constituencies. He held ministerial roles in various departments of the Odisha government during his tenure, leaving a lasting impact on the state’s political landscape.
