The toxic gas leading to asphyxiation (when you don’t get enough oxygen in your body) in the manhole has choked three men to death in Hyderabad’s Kulsumpura on Friday evening. The names of the diseased are M Srinivas, 40, V. Hanmanth, 42, and M. Venkateshwar Rao, 40. The investigating police officers claimed that the sanitary cleaning workers were hired by a company to clean the manholes.
Kulsumpura Sub Inspector Manmohan Goud said to the media that on Friday evening, it was reported that Srinivas had inadvertently opened the manhole cover, leading to a loss of balance resulting in his fall into the manhole.
In an attempt to rescue Srinivas, his co-workers Hanmanth and Venkateshwar Rao entered the manhole. Tragically, they succumbed to unconsciousness due to inhaling poisonous gas and subsequently passed away.
The individuals who tragically lost their lives were employed on a daily wage basis by the Ayyappa Infra contract agency.
Additionally, another colleague named Jeevan Raj, who attempted to assist them, suffered illness due to inhaling the toxic gas. Relatives of the deceased workers lodged complaints, alleging that the Ayyappa Infra contract agency neglected to furnish the laborers with protective breathing masks, ultimately resulting in the fatalities.
Following this incident, the Hyderabad police initiated a culpable homicide case against the contract agency regarding the deaths of the sanitation workers, with an ongoing investigation underway.
