Last night, Oklahoma was treated to a celestial and meteorological spectacle as it experienced an extraordinary convergence of natural phenomena. Skywatchers in the region were captivated by a peak meteor shower, intense storms, and an unusual display of the northern lights, all occurring simultaneously.

The evening’s highlight was the meteor shower, which reached its peak, providing a breathtaking show of falling stars across the night sky. The meteor shower was complemented by a powerful storm that rolled through the area, adding dramatic effects to the celestial display.

Adding to the magic, residents witnessed the rare appearance of the northern lights, or aurora borealis, which is not commonly seen in this part of the United States. The combination of these elements created a unique and mesmerizing atmosphere.

A striking visual record of the event was captured in a six-image stack, showcasing the best meteors from a 20-minute window. The base of the stack features a storm and the aurora, highlighting the rare alignment of these phenomena. The images depict a captivating blend of meteor trails against the backdrop of storm clouds and the shimmering aurora.

“Last night was magic in Oklahoma. A meteor shower peak, strong storms, with a rare appearance from the northern lights. This is a six-image stack with the best meteors from 20 mins around the base image of a storm and aurora. Well worth the 45 minutes of panic to get located,” a post on X read.

 

The rare alignment of meteor showers, intense weather, and northern lights made for a truly unforgettable night in Oklahoma.
