2024 Women Asia Cup Final: Sri Lanka Defeats India By 8 Wickets

Becoming champions of the 2024 Women Asia Cup Final, Host Sri Lanka defeats Harmanpreet Kaur-led India at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium by 8 wickets on Sunday.

Earlier at the beginning of the match, Sri Lanka faced a tough start as opener Vishmi Gunaratne got dismissed in the second over.

After Gunaratne’s dismissal, Harshitha came in the middle and joined Athapaththu in batting. Then, the  Sri Lankan team achieved a 50-run mark, as Athapaththu struck a boundary on left-armed spinner Radha Yadav’s bowling.

Afterward in the 10th over, Athapaththu achieved her fifty by hitting a boundary on the second last ball of right-armed Renuka Thakur.

However in the 12th over, Sri Lanka eventually lost its second wicket, as Deepti Sharma dismissed her up. But prior to her dismissal, Athapaththu scored 61 runs off 43 balls by hitting nine fours and two sixes.

Besides Athapaththu, Harshitha played a brilliant knock of 69 runs from 51 balls, scoring six boundaries & two sixes.

Another Sri Lankan player Kavisha Dilhari also performed brilliantly by scoring 30 runs in 16 balls, thus hitting one four and two sixes.

As a result, they managed to chase the total of 166 runs in 18 overs. While India on the other hand made 165/6 in 20 overs with Smriti Mandhana (60 runs off 47 balls, including 10 fours), Richa Ghosh (30 runs off 14 balls & one six), and Jemimah Rodrigues (29 runs in 16 balls consisting of three fours and a six) playing a notable knock.
