South African pace sensation Anrich Nortje recently joined the Delhi Capitals’ squad in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Nortje’s arrival followed Delhi’s first match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), which ended in a four-wicket loss for Delhi. The official X (formerly Twitter) handle of Delhi Capitals shared a glimpse of the 30-year-old joining the team, stating, “Everything moved a little Nortje today.”
Recapping Delhi’s initial game against Punjab, PBKS opted to field after winning the toss. Despite promising starts by David Warner and Mitchell Marsh, Delhi struggled to maintain momentum. Rishabh Pant’s return saw him scoring 18 off 13 balls. With the team struggling at 147/8, Abhishek Porel’s explosive cameo of 32 runs off 10 balls lifted Delhi to 174/9 in 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh (2/28) and Harshal Patel (2/43) were the top bowlers for PBKS.
In pursuit of 175, Delhi’s Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh contributed well, but it was the partnership between Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone that secured victory for PBKS. Curran’s resilient 63 off 47 balls earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award. Kuldeep Yadav (2/20) and Khaleel Ahmed (2/43) stood out as the top bowlers for Delhi.
