In the recent Asian Games, Roshibina Devi Naorem from Manipur showcased her extraordinary talent in Wushu, securing a commendable silver medal for India in the women’s 60 Kg category. Unfortunately, her quest for the gold medal was thwarted in the final match, where she faced a formidable opponent, Xiaowei Wu from China, and lost with a score of 2-0.
Despite falling short of the gold, Roshibina’s achievement is noteworthy as she managed to elevate her medal from bronze, a feat she had accomplished during the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games. This improvement demonstrates her dedication and growth in the sport.
Roshibina’s journey to the finals was marked by remarkable victories. In the semifinals, she faced a tough challenge from Vietnam’s Thi Thu Nguyen but emerged victorious with a final scoreline of 2-0, securing her spot in the championship match. Her exceptional skills were on full display during the quarterfinals when she effortlessly defeated Kazakhstan’s Aiman Karshyga.
This success in Wushu is a significant stride for India, especially considering that the last Asian Games saw the Indian Wushu team returning with four bronze medals. Notably, Wangkhem Sandhyarani Devi’s silver medal in the women’s 60kg category at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games was India’s best performance in Wushu until now. Roshibina Devi Naorem’s silver medal achievement has now equaled that remarkable feat, making her a shining star in Indian Wushu history.
In her words, Roshibina expressed her feelings on the victory, saying, “I’m thrilled to have won the silver medal for my country. Though I aimed for gold, I’m proud of this achievement and will continue to work hard to bring more glory to India in the future.” This dedication and determination are sure to inspire future generations of Indian athletes in the world of Wushu.
