Delhi: Indian cricket team’s impregnable fort since 36 years

Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) has been started, and the next match will be held at Arun Jaitley Stadium with India leading the series 1-0. The two teams have met eight times before, with India going undefeated with seven wins and one draw. Over the last 36 years, India has been unbeatable in this venue, winning 10 games and drawing two. The last time India was defeated by the West Indies was in 1987, when Vivian Richards, Malcom Marshal, and all the other stars dominated the world cricket pitch; God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar had not made his debut yet and King of run chase, Virat Kohli was not even born.

Previously known as Firoz Shah Kotla, the stadium has played host to several famous cricketers, including Virendra Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Ishant Sharma, Ashish Nehra, and Virat Kohli. However, Sachin Tendulkar has scored the most runs (759 in 19 innings in 10 matches). Anil Kumble has taken the most wickets (58) on this pitch. Team India has defeated Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the West Indies, South Africa, and Australia here. Australia last triumphed here 64 years ago in 1959, and they have lost three of six matches since then. After five matches, Australia has the lowest victory rate on venues like Chennai and Bangalore.

One of the Oldest cricket stadiums in India

Arun Jaitley stadium is one of the oldest stadiums of India and the first test played by India on this ground was in 1948 against West Indies which resulted into a draw between the two teams. West Indies played 5 test matches on the tour. The capacity of this ground is more than 40,000.

Why delhi test is so crucial for Indian Team?

The Delhi test is significant because a win here will propel India to the top of the test rankings and qualify them for the World Test Championship.

How will pitch behave?

Arun Jatiely Stadium has always been a wonderful turner surface for spinners since the early phases are beneficial for hitters but the spinners show their magic later on. The Arun Jaitely stadium wicket has little bounce. The average first-inning score at this stadium is 365, and the average second-inning score is 162.
