India found themselves at 34/1 during lunch on day two of the fourth Test match against England at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Saturday. This followed England’s first innings total of 353 runs.
The day began with England at 302 for 7, and Ollie Robinson reached his maiden Test half-century in 81 balls. His partnership with Joe Root crossed the 100-run mark for the eighth wicket.
With England looking to build a significant total, India needed a breakthrough desperately. Ravindra Jadeja delivered that breakthrough, ending the 102-run partnership by dismissing Robinson, caught behind by wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel, for a solid 58.
Jadeja struck again in the same over, removing Shoaib Bashir, caught by Rajat Patidar for a duck. This pushed England past the 350-run mark in their first innings.
The left-arm spinner continued his impact, wrapping up the English innings by dismissing James Anderson leg before wicket for no score, finishing with four wickets. England concluded their first innings with a total of 353 runs.
When India began their innings, openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Rohit Sharma took to the crease. Unfortunately for India, Rohit Sharma’s stay was brief as he was dismissed by Anderson for just 2 runs.
At 4/1, Shubman Gill joined Jaiswal, and the pair ensured there were no further setbacks. They added 34 runs for the loss of one wicket in 10 overs, with India trailing England by 319 runs at lunch on day two.
Brief Score:
England: 353/10 (Joe Root 122*, Ollie Robinson 58; Ravindra Jadeja 4/67, Akash Deep 3/83)
India: 34/1 (Yashasvi Jaiswal 27, Shubman Gill 4; James Anderson 1/15)
The match promises further exciting cricket as the day progresses. Stay tuned for more updates from the fourth Test between India and England.
