IND vs ENG : Captain Sharma Hits 4000 Test Runs in England Clash

During the second innings of the fourth Test against England at the JSCA International Stadium Complex on Sunday, India’s captain Rohit Sharma reached the milestone of 4000 Test runs as he stepped out to bat in pursuit of the 192-run target.

While he couldn’t make much impact in the first innings, being dismissed for just two runs, Rohit remained unbeaten at 24* in the second innings.

Throughout the series, Rohit has struggled to convert his starts into significant scores. Across the four matches, he has accumulated 266 runs at an average of 38 and a strike rate of 65.35, including one century in Rajkot.

Having played 58 Tests, Rohit has amassed 4,003 runs at an average of 44.97, with a highest score of 212. He boasts an impressive record of 11 centuries and 16 fifties in 100 innings.

As for the ongoing match, India concluded the day’s play at 40/0, with skipper Rohit Sharma (24*) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (16*) at the crease, needing 152 more runs to clinch the five-match series.

In England’s second innings, they were dismissed for a paltry 145 runs, with Zak Crawley (60) and Jonny Bairstow (30) being the main contributors. Indian spinners were instrumental, with Ravichandran Ashwin (5/51) and Kuldeep Yadav (4/22) leading the bowling attack. England set India a target of 192 runs to secure the series victory by a margin of 3-1.

In the first innings, India posted 307 runs in response to England’s total of 353. Despite a valiant effort from Yashasvi Jaiswal (73), India found themselves struggling at 219/7 before Dhruv Jurel’s resilient knock of 90, supported by Kuldeep’s contribution of 28, propelled them beyond the 300-run mark. Spinner Shoaib Bashir claimed a five-wicket haul (5/119), while Tom Hartley (3/68) and James Anderson (2/48) also impressed with the ball.

England, opting to bat first, managed to score 353 runs in their first innings, propelled by Joe Root’s unbeaten century (122*), Ollie Robinson’s half-century (58), and Ben Foakes’ contribution of 47. Ravindra Jadeja (4/67) and Akash Deep (3/83) were the standout bowlers for India.
