Gambhir, a former opening batsman with a distinguished career, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He previously served as the mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders during their title-winning IPL season in 2024.
As Gambhir rises to the new role, the Indian cricket board is already planning for the advertisement for the team’s support staff. Batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey besides fielding coach T Dilip’s tenures ended for T20 World Cups, which was held in USA and West Indies. Shah had said before that Gambhir would play for India first in the series against Sri Lanka which is soon to commence.
BCCI has suggested that Gambhir will be allowed to choose all his consultants independently, which has not been the case in the past. There are still questions if the Indian would continue to employ a batting coach in the team set-up basically given the wealth of knowledge of Gambhir as an opening batsman who has performed exemplary well across all the spheres.
Such expectations are owed to the fact that Gambhir will allow fresh ideas and operational strategies to be introduced to the team. Thus, the Indian cricket team prepares for the Sri Lanka series and other harnessing challenges, the fans and the specialists in the domain will be waiting for the impact of Gambhir’s leadership.
