Khel India’s backup account shared the news, saying, “India wins the first match in Breakdancing history! Yes, you read that correctly! India Sardjoe, known as ‘B-Girl India,’ from the Netherlands, triumphed over refugee team member B-Girl Talash in the inaugural breaking battle at the Olympics.”
The 16-year-old athlete chose to compete under her real name, unlike most dancers, who often use pseudonyms reflecting their alter egos.
In an interview with Olympics.com, she explained, “Many people ask why I don’t use a B-Girl name. Since I was young, I’ve always gone by India. No one gave me a quirky nickname or called me something else. I wouldn’t change it for anything, and it will always be just India.”
This simple yet significant choice highlights her authenticity and individuality, both in and out of the competition.
