The Indian cricket team is set to play a two-day, day-night tour match against Australia’s Prime Minister’s XI between the first two Tests of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year. This tour match will be held at Manuka Oval in Canberra on November 30 and December 1.
The five-test series between India and Australia kicks off in Perth on November 22, marking the first time since the 1991–92 season that the two cricketing powerhouses will face off in a five-match series.
This two-day day-night fixture is a new addition to the series itinerary, designed to help the Indian team acclimate to the conditions ahead of the day-night Test at Adelaide. The Indian squad had previously experienced a day-night test during their 2020–21 tour.
Cricket Australia (CA) highlighted the significance of the match, noting that it not only celebrates the enduring cricketing ties between India and Australia but also marks an historic first. Previously, the Prime Minister’s XI matches have been one-day fixtures, with the first such event dating back to 1951.
The upcoming match will be the fourth encounter between India and the Prime Minister’s XI, but the first to span two days, adding a new dimension to this traditional fixture.
