India’s para powerlifters Manpreet Kaur, Parmjeet Kumar, and Ashok showcased remarkable prowess and determination on the second day of the Para Powerlifting World Cup in Egypt, securing three medals and reinforcing their global presence in para-sports. The powerlifters exhibited outstanding performances, garnering recognition and serving as inspirations nationwide.

Ashok, a celebrated Indian para-athlete, clinched the silver medal in Egypt, adding to his Asian Games bronze. Despite encountering a setback with a no-lift in his second attempt, Ashok’s perseverance led him to lift an impressive 196kg, solidifying his position as the World No. 6 and positioning him favorably for qualification to the Paris Paralympics 2024. Ashok expressed gratitude to his coach, JP Singh, and support staff, underscoring their indispensable role in his journey to success.

Parmjeet Kumar’s silver medal in the fiercely contested 49kg category showcased his strength and determination, earning him a spot in the Paris Paralympics. His consistent improvement and podium finish highlighted his emergence as a formidable contender in para powerlifting. Parmjeet’s journey, marked by progression from the Para Asian Games to the World Championships, reflects his dedication to excellence.

Manpreet Kaur’s bronze medal in the 41kg category further bolstered India’s achievements on the international stage. Despite facing stiff competition, Kaur’s successful lift of 86kg secured her a place on the podium, setting a precedent for future Indian para-athletes.
