India fast bowler Mohammed Sami made a big statement on Monday, announcing that he has undergone Achilles tendon surgery.
The right-handed shortstop shared a message with his fans on X (formerly Twitter).
“I had an amazing heel surgery on my Achilles tendon! Recovery will take some time but I can’t wait to get back on my feet again. #AchillesRecovery #HeelSurgery #RoadToRecovery,” tweeted Shami.
Shami is not at home for the upcoming T20I series against Australia after the ICC event and was later ruled out of the entire South Africa tour. He also missed the Afghanistan series and is not currently part of the ongoing Test series against England.
The 33-year-old did not feature in the last five-match series against England and last played for India in the ODI World Cup final against Australia in November. During the tournament, he became the highest wicket-taker by dismissing 24 batsmen in just 7 matches.
Despite being bothered by a landing problem during India’s successful World Cup campaign, Shami put on a show and did not let it affect the game. Latest developments have revealed that he has decided to withdraw from the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). This news came as a huge shock to the team as Shami plays a key role as the leader of Gujarat Titans’ pace attack.
Shami played a key role in GT results in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons. The 33-year-old took 20 wickets in 2022 and improved in IPL 2023 by picking up 28 wickets at an average of 18.64. Shami is especially good with the new ball.
