Indian women’s doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand advanced to the second round of the Swiss Open 2024 in Basel, Switzerland, on Tuesday. They secured a comfortable victory by defeating Annie Xu and Kerry Xu from the United States with a score of 21-15, 21-12 in the round of 32, lasting 39 minutes.
Additionally, Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi, in men’s doubles, won their qualifying round match against Natan Begga and Baptiste Labarthe from France with a score of 21-17, 21-15.
In mixed doubles, B Sumeeth Reddy and N Sikki Reddy advanced to the main draw after defeating Brazil’s Davi Silva and Samia Lima with a score of 21-12, 21-17.
However, other Indian women’s doubles pairs Rutaparna Panda-Swetaparna Panda, Ashwini Bhat-Shikha Gautam, and Priya Konjengbam-Shruti Mishra faced defeats in their respective matches.
In men’s singles, India’s Sameer Verma and Sathish Kumar Karunakaran won their first matches in the qualifying round but couldn’t progress to the main draw after losing their second qualifying match.
