The stage is set for the inaugural ceremony of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, preceding the tournament’s opening match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Friday. As tradition dictates, the IPL kicks off with a spectacular ceremony, and this year is no exception. The star-studded lineup for the event includes Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, singer Sonu Nigam, and musical maestro AR Rahman.
The opening ceremony will take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, just before the commencement of the IPL 2024 opener between defending champions CSK and RCB. Scheduled to commence at 6:30 PM, the opening ceremony will precede the match which kicks off at 8 PM. Additionally, the IPL organizers have announced that DJ Axwell, a member of the Swedish House Mafia, will also captivate the audience ahead of the inaugural match.
The 17th season of the T20 league is anticipated to witness several notable comebacks. Rishabh Pant makes his return to professional cricket for the first time since December 2022, while MS Dhoni will also mark his comeback to the sport after his last appearance in the IPL 2023 campaign. Furthermore, this season marks Virat Kohli’s return to action following the birth of his son Akaay, and Hardik Pandya will lead the Mumbai Indians, a franchise he departed from a few seasons ago.
However, on the eve of their opening match against RCB, Dhoni relinquished his role as captain of CSK. Opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad will now lead CSK in IPL 2024. The IPL 2024 Opening Ceremony is set to commence at 6:30 PM. The coin toss for the curtain-raiser match is slated for 7:30 PM, with the first ball scheduled to be bowled at 8:00 PM.
