MCA Doubles Prize Money for Mumbai Ranji Trophy Champions

The Ranji Trophy prize money will be doubled, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced on Thursday, in the wake of Mumbai’s 42nd consecutive victory at the city’s legendary Wankhede Stadium. Mumbai defeated Vidarbha by 169 runs at the Wankhede Stadium here on Thursday to win the 42nd Ranji Trophy. The Mumbai team that won the Ranji title will receive an additional payment of Rs five crores. “MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) president Amol Kale and Apex Council has decided to double the Ranji Trophy prize money,” stated MCA secretary Ajinkya Naik in a statement. The Mumbai Ranji Trophy winning team will receive an extra five crore rupees from the MCA.

Prior to the game, Vidarbha chose to bowl first and dismissed Mumbai for 224 in their opening half, with the majority of the runs coming from Shardul Thakur (75) and Prithvi Shaw (46). The two best bowlers were Yash Thakur (3/54) and Harsh Dubey (3/62). With Yash Rathod (27) and Atharva Taide (23), Mumbai’s Shams Mulani (3/32), Tanush Kotian (3/7), and Dhawal Kulkarni (3/15) dismissed Vidarbha for 105 runs, giving Mumbai a 119-run lead in the first innings. Mumbai’s lead grew to 537 runs after Mulani (50), Ajinkya Rahane (73), Shreyas Iyer (95), and Musheer Khan (136) scored hundreds of runs in their second innings. For Vidarbha, Harsh Dubey (5/144) was the best bowler.

Vidarbha was 223/5, needing to chase 538, but they were able to rally thanks to a 130-run stand between captain Akshay Wadkar (102) and Harsh Dubey (65). Mumbai’s best bowler was Tanush Kotian (4/95); Tushar Deshpande and Musheer each claimed two wickets, while Dhawal and Mulani claimed one each. Together, they held Vidarbha to 368 runs, winning the match by a margin of 169 runs. Musheer’s century and two wickets in the second innings made him the “Player of the Match.”
