Mike Tyson Opens Up About Fighting Jake Paul: I’d Rather Die In The Ring

Legendary boxer Mike Tyson has made a powerful statement ahead of his highly anticipated fight with Jake Paul, revealing his intense mindset and his willingness to “die in the ring” if things don’t go well. In a candid clip from an upcoming Netflix documentary, Tyson shared his thoughts on the November 15 showdown with Paul, expressing that victory would make him feel “immortal.” But if the fight doesn’t go his way, the 58-year-old declared that he would rather face his end in the ring than in a hospital bed.

“This is huge for me,” Tyson said, reflecting on the stakes. “If I win, I will be immortal. If I do it bad, I don’t want to die in a hospital bed. I want to die in the ring.” Tyson’s words give a glimpse into the warrior mentality he’s maintained even decades into his career, as he prepares to face the younger Paul, known for his unexpected success in the boxing ring.

Health Setback Delayed The Fight

Originally scheduled for July, the fight was postponed due to a health scare Tyson experienced during a flight. While traveling from Miami to Los Angeles, Tyson suddenly felt dizzy and nauseous, suffering from an ulcer flare-up just before landing. His publicist, Joann Mignano, told USA Today, “He became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare-up 30 minutes before landing. He is appreciative of the medical staff that assisted him.” Due to this setback, the match was rescheduled for November.

Tyson’s Determined Return And The Stakes Involved

Despite his health challenges, Tyson’s passion for boxing remains as strong as ever. In the documentary clip, he reveals his fearlessness and drive, sharing, “I don’t do anything if I don’t risk being embarrassed. Like now, I want to fight this young motherf**ker.” These words show the intensity and commitment Tyson brings to his matches, even as he faces opponents from a new generation of fighters.

For Paul, who has steadily built his reputation in the boxing world, this match represents another step in his journey from YouTuber to professional boxer. Earlier in the year, following the initial postponement, he faced Mike Perry, securing a victory with a knockout in the sixth round. Now, Paul’s fans and boxing enthusiasts alike are eagerly awaiting the November bout against Tyson, which promises to be a memorable face-off between two distinct eras of the sport.
