Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra quickly made a name for himself after recovering from his injury by winning the Doha Diamond League in 2023. Neeraj missed the action because of an injury, but it appeared that he picked up where he left off with his form on the very first try. Chopra’s opening throw, which was 88.67, was a fantastic way to begin the new season. He had already won with his first throw, but he persisted in trying to advance.
Chopra made a good start, but it was clear after his throw that he was not content. After the first try, he was in the lead on the chart. Chopra’s second throw produced a distance of 86.04m, keeping him ahead of world champion Anderson Peters and Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Jakub Vadlejch, whose best throw was only able to reach 85.88m.
The advantage for Chora was only four centimetres. Neeraj threw the spear at a distance of 85.47m on his third try. Despite the shortening of the distance from his initial attempt, he managed to maintain the lead. The thrower from the Czech Republic passed Anderson Peters to take over second place. Neeraj’s fourth attempt resulted in a foul.
He reached 84.37 metres on his second and final attempt. Vadlejch, on the other hand, failed in his fifth attempt to beat Chopra’s distance (88.47m). Anderson Peters recorded a distance of 82.22m in his fifth attempt, falling short.
Neeraj ultimately won by travelling the distance in his first attempt. The Olympic gold medalist came close to breaking the 90-meter barrier but fell short. Eldhose Paul of India, who won the triple jump event at the Commonwealth Games, came in 10th place out of a field of 11 men with the best jump of 15.84 metres on his first attempt.
Eldhose Paul, 26, who was competing in his first Diamond League match, missed his next two attempts by 13.65 metres and 14.70 metres, respectively, and was unable to advance to the medal round. Eldhose Paul ran a 16.99m personal best at the Federation Cup in India last year.
