Rajasthan Kings won the first ever Legend Cricket Trophy (LCT) by beating New York Superstar Strikers at Pallekele International Stadium. All-rounder Ashley Nurse shows his class with both ball and bat. With his disciplined performance, Rajasthan was able to beat their opponent by 20 runs.
While batting first, the New York Superstar Strikers could reach only 159 runs in the 15 over game. The opening pair of Chadwick Walton and Alviro Petrsen started their batting chase cautiously but Walton failed off cheaply. Petersen followed his partner to the pavilion shortly after. Rajasthan’s bowlers maintained their tight lengths and lines, making it tougher to score runs. Indian legend Yujraj Singh showed his batting power, hitting three consecutive sixes off Shadab Jakati in the 13th over. Yujraj continued his destructive batting in the 14th over also, smashing four boundaries and a maximum off Manpreet Gony. However, 28 runs were needed in the final over and Yujraj was still on the pitch. Fans were still hoping to get a trophy. Despite completing his 50, he was caught on the third ball of the final over and the hopes of New York’s fans were shattered by this wicket. Yujraj scored 54 off 22 balls with 5 sixes.
While batting first, Rajasthan lost their first wicket in the form of captain Robin Uthappa. Hamilton Masakadza and Ashley Nurse added 106 runs for the second wicket. Masakadza scored 56 off 30 balls and Nurse scored 97 off 41 balls.
Nursey was economical with balls too, claiming one wicket in his two overs.
Jerome Taylor emerged as an outstanding bowler for the New York Superstar Strikers, claiming three crucial wickets for 40 runs. Captain Uthappa, Masakadza and Ashley Nurse were his victims.
Nurse was awarded the Player of the match award for his all round performance.
