RCB vs CSK, IPL 2025: Virat Kohli's Men End 17-Years Wait, Beat MS Dhoni's CSK At Their Home
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) finally shattered their 17-year-long jinx at MA Chidambaram Stadium, securing a dominant 50-run victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025. This was only RCB’s second-ever win at the venue, with their first triumph coming back in IPL 2008.
Batting first, RCB made their intentions clear right from the start. Openers Phil Salt (32 off 16) and Devdutt Padikkal (27 off 14) came out swinging, giving their team a fiery start. Rajat Patidar (51 off 32) played a crucial anchor role in the middle order, while Virat Kohli, despite taking a blow on the helmet, kept the momentum going.
Tim David provided the finishing touch with an explosive 22* off just 8 balls, smashing three consecutive sixes. Their fearless approach never wavered, even when wickets fell or catches were dropped. Noor Ahmad (3/36) and Matheesha Pathirana (2 wickets) were the standout bowlers for CSK, but RCB’s aggressive intent ensured they posted a formidable 196/7 in 20 overs.
In response, CSK, usually dominant at Chepauk, found themselves completely outplayed in one of their rare home thrashings. The chase started on a shaky note when Josh Hazlewood used the Chepauk bounce brilliantly, denting CSK’s top order in his very first over.
Unlike RCB’s fearless batting, CSK lacked early intent, which proved costly. They struggled to build partnerships, and as wickets kept tumbling, the pressure became unbearable. MS Dhoni was still at the crease towards the end, but with seven wickets down, the game was all but lost.
RCB’s bowlers capitalized on the situation, ensuring that they not only breached CSK’s fortress but completely dismantled it. This emphatic win marked a historic moment for RCB, proving their ability to dominate even in the toughest conditions.
