Royal Challengers Bangalore secured their first franchise league title after defeating Delhi Capitals by eight wickets in the Women’s Premier League’s second season at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday.
In pursuit of 114 runs, led by Smriti Mandhana, Royal Challengers capitalized on significant contributions from Sophie Devine and Ellyse Perry to clinch victory in the final over.
However, on their victory, Vijay Mallya wrote on X, “Heartiest congratulations to the RCB Women’s Team for winning the WPL. It would be a fantastic double if the RCB Men’s Team won the IPL which is long overdue. Good Luck.”
This victory means a lot for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans. Here is a glimpse of how the fans celebrate their victory in the National Capital Delhi.
Earlier in the match, Shreyanka Patil played a pivotal role for RCB, claiming four wickets and helping restrict DC to a mere 113 runs in 18.3 overs.
Sophie Molineux’s crucial over, which dismissed Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Alice Capsey, turned the tide in favor of Royal Challengers. RCB’s spinner accounted for nine wickets, the highest tally by any team in WPL history.
Although the Bengaluru-based franchise has yet to secure a title in the Indian Premier League, this victory marks a significant milestone for them in franchise leagues.
