After India’s impressive series win against England at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, Captain Rohit Sharma took to Instagram to dedicate a post to the emerging superstars of the Indian cricket team. He humorously acknowledged his absence and the absence of other senior Test regulars like Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, emphasizing the impact of the next generation players.
With Kohli’s absence due to the birth of his second child, Mohammed Shami’s ankle surgery, Rahul’s sidelining after the first Test, Jadeja’s miss in the second Test, Bumrah’s rest in the fourth match, and Ashwin’s absence for personal reasons in the third game, India introduced five debutants – Rajat Patidar, Dhruv Jurel, Sarfaraz Khan, Akash Deep, and Devdutt Padikkal.
Rohit, along with young talents like Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, guided the inexperienced lineup to outperform England in every innings, securing a 4-1 victory in the five-match series. Commending the young players, Rohit shared a photo on Instagram with the caption: “Garden mein ghoomne wale bande,” featuring Jurel, Jaiswal, Gill, and Sarfaraz.
Reflecting on the performance of the debutants, Rohit, in an interview with Jio Cinema, revealed how the team management provided assurance to the newcomers, allowing them to feel relaxed throughout the series. The focus was on giving them a platform and comfort to express themselves without the constant fear of being dropped after a couple of Test matches.
Rohit stated, “All of these guys are extremely talented. All they needed was a little bit of assurance and a platform. We didn’t want to keep putting pressure on them. It is just, for us, about making sure we lay a nice red carpet for them to go out and perform.”
