The CAS’ decision on Vinesh Phogat’s appeal for a joint-silver medal has been postponed to August 11.
Vinesh was disqualified after being found 100 grams overweight at the official weigh-in on the morning of the final on Wednesday (Aug 7). She later appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against her disqualification from the 50kg freestyle final at the Paris Olympics in 2024.
In her appeal, she has requested that the court award her at least a silver medal.
Vinesh Phogat initially sought to retake the weigh-ins and secure her place in the gold medal bout, but the rigid Olympic schedule made this request impossible. Upon receiving this decision from the CAS, the Indian wrestler then appealed to be awarded a joint silver medal.
Should her appeal succeed, India’s medal tally at the Paris Olympics would match its previous haul from Tokyo 2020, though notably without a gold medal.
