On Wednesday, former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman was in attendance at a ceremony where he met Indian Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar. The event aimed to honor the legacy of late MR Baig, a cricket coach and former Navy official. Admiral R Hari Kumar is scheduled to felicitate the family of the esteemed coach during the ceremony. Noteworthy is the fact that MR Baig played a crucial role in shaping the careers of several renowned cricketers, including VVS Laxman, MSK Prasad, Ravi Shastri, Venkatesh Prasad, Rahul Dravid, and Mohammed Azharuddin. The cricketers, at different points in their careers, benefited from the guidance and training provided by Baig. VVS Laxman, in particular, had a distinguished cricketing career, featuring in 134 Tests for India. He accumulated a total of 8,781 runs at an impressive average of 45.97, showcasing his batting prowess with 17 centuries and 56 fifties. Laxman’s best score in Tests stands at an impressive 281. Additionally, he contributed to Indian cricket in 86 ODIs, amassing 2,338 runs at an average of 30.76, with six centuries and 10 fifties in 83 innings. His highest score in ODIs is 131, reflecting his consistent and impactful presence in limited-overs cricket as well.
