Maharashtra’s ‘Ahmednagar’ Gets Green Signal To Rename

In the recent developments, the chain of changing names of the places continues.

The Maharashtra Cabinet has given approval to rename Maharashtra’s ‘Ahmednagar’ as ‘Ahilyanagar’, honoring the 18th-century Maratha queen Ahilyabai Holkar.

The city’s current name originates from Ahmed Nizamshah, the founder of the Nizamshahi dynasty and Ahmednagar town in the 15th century.

This decision follows similar renaming efforts in 2022, where Aurangabad and Osmanabad were respectively changed to Sambhaji Nagar and Dharashiv.

The previous names of Aurangabad and Osmanabad were associated with Mughal emperors Aurangzeb and Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan.
