The Assam Police arrested four individuals on Friday for their alleged involvement in a large-scale drug syndicate operating in the state. The operation, conducted in collaboration with the Special Task Force (STF), led to the seizure of narcotics valued at over ₹120 crore during raids in the Karimganj and Cachar districts.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Noimul Haque, Fuzail Ahmed, Atiqur Rahman (also known as Atik), and Jagajit Deb Barma (alias Barman). Their involvement in the drug trade was exposed following a well-coordinated operation based on intelligence inputs.
The breakthrough came when the police received a tip-off about a drug consignment being transported through the region. Acting swiftly, law enforcement agencies intercepted a 12-wheeler truck in the Karimganj district, where they discovered a massive cache of illegal drugs hidden in cleverly concealed compartments. The raid resulted in the seizure of 3,50,000 Yaba tablets and 1.3 kg of heroin, all packed into 100 soap cases. The estimated market value of the drugs seized from this location alone is around ₹115 crore, according to Assam Police IG Parthasarathi Mahanta.
In a parallel operation in the neighboring Cachar district, authorities conducted another raid at Kathal Road in Silchar, leading to the recovery of an additional 18,000 Yaba tablets. These tablets have an estimated street value of ₹5.5 crore, further highlighting the extensive reach of the drug syndicate.
The Assam Police and STF continue to investigate the network behind these illegal operations, with the aim of dismantling the entire syndicate and preventing further distribution of dangerous substances in the state. The authorities have reiterated their determination to root out drug trafficking and safeguard the health and security of the people of Assam.
