A tragic bus accident in the Kumhari area of Durg district has resulted in the loss of at least 12 lives, with 14 others sustaining injuries. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when the bus, carrying workers, overturned and rolled into a ditch, as confirmed by an official.

Durg Collector Richa Prakash Choudhary provided details of the unfortunate event, stating that the bus, packed with labourers, fell into the ditch near Kumhari at approximately 8:30 pm. “Twelve passengers lost their lives, and 14 others were grievously injured and admitted to a hospital,” Choudhary mentioned.

She further informed that out of the 14 injured individuals, twelve were referred and transferred to AIIMS (Raipur) for treatment, while the remaining two are currently receiving medical care at a private hospital. Choudhary assured that all of them are in stable condition and are being provided with the best possible care.

Efforts to evacuate passengers who are still trapped inside the bus are underway, the Collector added, noting that the cause of the accident is yet to be determined.

“Tragically, 11 employees lost their lives in the accident,” the Chief Minister’s tweet continued. “I pray to the Almighty to bring peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families. Adequate arrangements have been made for the treatment of the injured employees. I wish them a speedy recovery.”

The entire incident has left the community in shock, and authorities are working diligently to provide support to the affected families. As investigations into the cause of the accident continue, the focus remains on ensuring the best possible care for the injured and extending support to those who have lost their loved ones in this heartbreaking tragedy.
