Crime Surge In Hyderabad: 509 People Arrested In Drunk Driving Cases Over Two Days

Crime seems to be on the rise in the most desired city to live in India – Hyderabad. In the latest development, the Cyberabad traffic police arrested 509 people in a drunk-and-driving case in just two days of operation.

It must be noted that most of the detainees were two wheelers with a total of 414, and 22 autorickshaw drivers, 67 four wheelers and six heavy vehicle operators who were caught driving under the influence.

Twelve individuals had particularly high blood alcohol content (BAC) levels, around 300 mg/100 ml.

Drunk driving is a violation under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, which carries a penalty of Rs. 10,000 and/or six months imprisonment.

In a press release, the traffic police highlighted that alcohol impairs vision and judgment, increasing the risk of accidents, which can often be fatal. Repeat offenders face longer suspensions or permanent revocations of their licenses.

Continuing their crackdown on drunk driving, the Hyderabad Traffic Police arrested 298 drunk drivers on Saturday, July 27, with 70 of them sentenced to jail for periods ranging from 2 to 8 days, according to a media release.
