Lift Accidents in Noida and Greater Noida Highlight Safety Issues As Seven-Year-Old Girl Gets Trapped in Faulty Elevator

Lift accidents in Noida and Greater Noida have created an atmosphere of fear, with no one stepping up to take responsibility despite the passage of the Lift Act. This persistent issue has led to widespread anxiety among residents, many of whom now prefer to use stairs over lifts. The latest incident from Sector-79’s Elite Golf Green Society underscores the gravity of the situation.

On Thursday evening, a sudden lift malfunction left a seven-year-old girl trapped inside. She sounded the alarm repeatedly, but no support staff arrived.

Incident Details

The incident occurred in the Elite Golf Green Society, located in Sector-79. The lift stopped abruptly, trapping the young girl inside. Despite her attempts to alert others by sounding the alarm multiple times, no help arrived promptly. After being stuck for a considerable amount of time, the girl became despondent and started crying. She was so frightened that she had trouble breathing and resorted to pouring water from her bottle onto her face to calm down. It took about 20 minutes for the society’s maintenance team to respond and rescue her.

The girl’s father, Puneet Pathak, recounted the ordeal, stating that their flat is on the 15th floor. His daughter, a second-grader, was returning from coaching when the lift got stuck on the ninth floor.

20 Minutes of Distress

According to the family, the girl was alone when the lift malfunctioned. The sudden jolt scared her, and she immediately pressed the alarm. Although security guards and some residents gathered, the maintenance technical staff failed to arrive in time. The girl remained trapped in the lift from 6:45 PM to 7:05 PM. The incident left her so traumatized that she was unable to sleep that night. The family posted a video on social media platform X, calling for police and administrative action.

Following the incident, the distraught father demanded strict action against the maintenance team, emphasizing the need for accountability and safety measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
