The police arrested a 51-year-old man from Kolkata for sending an email threatening to bomb the office of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna, officials reported on Monday.
Initial investigations show that the suspect, despite his claims of being associated with Al-Qaeda in the email, has no known ties to any terrorist group.
The man, identified as Mohd Zahid, a small shop owner from BB Ganguly Street, will be brought to Patna after securing a transit remand. He was apprehended in the Bowbazar area of Kolkata. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajeev Mishra confirmed to PTI that Zahid’s mobile phone, used to send the threatening email, has been recovered.
The motive behind Zahid’s email, sent on July 16, remains unclear. He will undergo further questioning upon arrival in Patna.
An FIR was filed based on a statement from Sachivalaya Police Station SHO Sanjeev Kumar on August 2.
