Mass Food Poisoning In UP, 80 Students Falls Sick

About 80 students from Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Ashram Method Inter College in Mehroona village fell ill with stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea due to food poisoning, officials said on Monday. The incident occurred after the students had dinner on Sunday night.

District Magistrate Divya Mittal assured reporters that the students are in stable condition and that an investigation is ongoing.

According to an official statement, some students at the government-run school became ill from food poisoning. Two students, Akash and Nitesh, are being treated at Maharishi Devraha Baba Medical College, while the rest received primary care from a team led by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at the school.

All students are now safe, and a medical team is on-site as a precaution. District Magistrate Mittal and Superintendent of Police Sankalp Sharma visited the medical college to check on the students.

Ms. Mittal stated that the students are stable and that those responsible will be held accountable.

Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety Vinay Kumar Sahay reported that the Food Safety and Drug Administration team inspected the school’s kitchen and storage areas, collecting samples of food items like bread, lentils, vegetables, chili powder, chickpeas, mustard oil, and mixed pickles. These samples were taken in the presence of the school’s director, Rajkumar Gupta, and a notice regarding storage and kitchen deficiencies was issued. The samples have been sent for testing, and further actions will depend on the results.

The government-run Ashram school has 326 students from grades six to twelve. After dinner on Sunday night, some students started experiencing symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, dizziness, and chills. The school management provided medication and advised rest.

By Monday morning, around 80 students were affected and taken to the hospital. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Vipin Kumar Dwivedi and Food Inspector Vipin Kumar Sahay arrived at the scene. Sahay noted that most of the students suffered from food poisoning, while some were affected by infectious diseases.

The health department confirmed that all students are now in stable condition. The students reported eating ‘poori’ and ‘chhola’ the night before.
