A tragic incident occurred on Thursday in Kabir Nagar, Welcome, where a two-storey building collapsed, resulting in the loss of two lives and critical injuries to one person, according to an official statement.
Local authorities were alerted to the building collapse around 02:16 am following a distress call. At the time of the incident, the first floor of the building was unoccupied, while the ground floor was being used for jeans cutting, as confirmed by the official.
Unfortunately, three workers were trapped under the debris. Despite prompt rescue efforts, two of the workers were pronounced dead upon their arrival at GTB Hospital. The deceased individuals have been identified as Arshad (aged 30) and Tauhid (aged 20), while the third worker, Rehan (aged 22), sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving treatment at GTB Hospital, according to North East DCP Joy Tirkey.
The owner of the building, identified as Shahid, is currently being sought by authorities. Legal actions will be taken in accordance with the situation, stated the official.
