For those who might have missed the buzz over the past few months, General Motors is on the verge of unveiling an exciting new chapter in the Corvette saga. The spotlight is set to shine on the track-focused 2025 Corvette ZR1, a high-octane variant of the acclaimed mid-engine C8. This new ZR1 promises to push the boundaries of aggression, speed, and performance beyond the already impressive C8 lineup. As we gear up for tonight’s big reveal, here’s a comprehensive roundup of what we know and anticipate about the 2025 Corvette ZR1.
The 2025 Corvette ZR1 will mark the fifth generation of the storied ZR1 nameplate, poised to deliver an array of jaw-dropping specifications. Central to the excitement is its new engine setup: the ZR1 will debut the twin-turbocharged 5.5L V8 LT7, an evolution of the LT6 engine found in the C8 Z06. Expected to generate approximately 850 horsepower and between 750 and 850 pound-feet of torque, this powerplant will position the ZR1 as the ultimate performance beast in the C8 lineup—at least until the C8 Zora makes its debut.
Power will be channeled exclusively to the rear wheels through the same eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission co-developed with Tremec, which also equips the C8 Stingray and C8 Z06. Unfortunately, a manual transmission option will not be available for this high-performance variant.
The ZR1’s exterior design will include a wide body and potentially active aerodynamic elements. Spotted testing at the Nürburgring, a prototype showcased a commanding rear wing, additional side intakes, and other aerodynamic enhancements. Both a two-door coupe and a hard-top convertible are anticipated.
Beneath its striking exterior, the 2025 Corvette ZR1 will be built on the GM Y2 platform, featuring a specially tuned Magnetic Ride Control suspension to manage its formidable power. Enhanced with larger, more capable brakes, the ZR1 may also offer an optional high-end brake package crafted from an “exotic material.”
Inside, the ZR1 will largely reflect the design of the C8 Corvette lineup, though it may offer exclusive new seating materials and a massage seat function for added luxury.
The 2025 Corvette ZR1 will be built on the GM Y2 platform and assembled at the GM Bowling Green plant in Kentucky, continuing the tradition set by the rest of the C8 lineup.
