Amgen Announces New Technology And Innovation Center In Hyderabad

Amgen, a global leader in biotechnology, has unveiled plans to establish a new technology and innovation site in Hyderabad, marking a significant milestone in its expansion strategy. Set to open in the fourth quarter of 2024, the new site, named Amgen India, will be located in Hitech City and will span six floors, accommodating up to 3,000 employees.

The decision to choose Hyderabad for this major development is driven by the city’s renowned talent pool in medicine, life sciences, and data sciences, as well as its rapidly advancing artificial intelligence (AI) sector. This new facility aims to enhance Amgen’s digital capabilities and accelerate its pipeline of innovative medicines.

David M. Reese, M.D., Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Amgen, highlighted the strategic importance of this new site:

“At a time when a rapidly aging global population demands more innovation, the convergence of biotechnology and technology is enabling Amgen to work with greater speed, confidence, and efficiency — an incredibly exciting milestone for which we have been preparing for over a decade,” said David M. Reese, M.D., Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Amgen.

“Amgen has been a leader in biotechnology for over 40 years, and establishing this new site in India, a country known for its world-class technology and life sciences talent, marks a significant step forward in our journey to fulfill our mission of serving patients”, he added.

Amgen India will focus on developing new technology solutions and digital capabilities at scale, which will improve efficiencies across the company. The site will initially concentrate on AI, data science, and life sciences, with plans to expand its global capabilities over time. To lead this expansion, Som Chattopadhyay has been appointed as the national executive for India.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed pride in Hyderabad’s selection: “It is a great breakthrough and a matter of pride for us to have one of the world’s largest biotech firms choose Hyderabad for its first development facilities in Telangana.”

Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the significance of Amgen’s decision: “I’m thrilled to note that Amgen has chosen Hyderabad to establish Amgen India. This development is a powerful endorsement of the world-class life sciences ecosystem we’re cultivating in Telangana. The government is committed to partnering with Amgen to ensure their success here. This marks the beginning of a promising, long-term collaboration, and we’re excited about the healthier future we’re building together!”

Amgen, which boasts nearly 27,000 employees and operates in approximately 100 countries, continues to strengthen its global presence with this strategic investment in Hyderabad.
