WhatsApp is set to enhance the user experience for Mac desktop users with a significant update. According to a report from WABetaInfo, the company will soon replace its existing Electron-based desktop app with a new native Catalyst app. This transition aims to offer improved performance and security for WhatsApp users on macOS.
The update, which will roll out over the next 54 days, means that the current Electron app will cease to function by the end of October. WhatsApp has begun notifying users about this change through in-app messages. Screenshots shared by WABetaInfo on X reveal these notifications, urging users to switch to the new Catalyst app to continue using WhatsApp on their Mac desktops.
The new Catalyst app promises to deliver a smoother and more secure experience, fully integrated with macOS features. Users can rest assured that their chat data and contact lists will be preserved during the transition. The Catalyst app is expected to offer enhanced performance and ongoing updates, making it a significant upgrade over the old Electron framework.
To avoid disruption, users should download the Catalyst desktop app from the WhatsApp website before the Electron app is phased out. This upgrade reflects WhatsApp’s commitment to improving user experience and adapting to evolving technology.
