14 Opposition MPs Suspended from Lok Sabha for ‘Unruly Conduct’ Following Security Breach Incident

New Delhi [India], December 14: In the aftermath of the security breach incident in Lok Sabha, 14 opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) have been suspended for “unruly conduct” during the ongoing winter session. Five Congress MPs were suspended earlier in the day, followed by the suspension of an additional nine MPs, bringing the total to 14.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi moved the motion for the suspension of nine opposition MPs – Benny Behanan, VK Sreekandan, Mohammad Jawed, PR Natarajan, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, K Subrahmanyam, SR Parthiban, S Venkatesan, and Manickam Tagore. The motion was adopted amid sloganeering by opposition members, and the House was later adjourned for the day.

Earlier in the day, the motion for the suspension of five Congress MPs – TN Prathapan, Hibi Eden, S Jothimani, Ramya Haridas, and Dean Kuriakose – was moved and adopted during the Lok Sabha session. The MPs were suspended for the remainder of the winter session, which concludes on December 22.

The suspension came in the wake of a security breach where two individuals jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitor’s gallery. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi informed the House of the steps taken and highlighted that Speaker Om Birla has initiated a high-level inquiry into the incident. He urged opposition members not to “politicize” the issue and emphasized that the probe has already begun.

Meanwhile, in Rajya Sabha, Trinamool Congress’s Derek O’Brien has been suspended for the remainder of the session for “gross misconduct.” The winter session of Parliament is scheduled to conclude on December 22.
