On Saturday night, a section of a two-story building in the Gauripada area of Bhiwandi city collapsed, resulting in the loss of two lives, according to officials. The building in question was reported to be 45 years old. Furthermore, reports from officials indicate that six individuals who were residing in the building became trapped beneath the debris from the collapsed portion. A coordinated effort involving the Bhiwandi Fire Brigade and other rescue teams successfully extricated these individuals.
Out of the six rescued, four have been admitted to a hospital for medical care. Tragically, two of the rescued individuals, identified as 40-year-old Uzma and an 8-month-old girl, were pronounced dead upon their arrival at the hospital, as reported by officials.
Officials have revealed that the building, with a history of more than four decades, was in a deteriorating condition. The local municipal corporation had issued a notice to the occupants, urging them to vacate the premises. Unfortunately, this warning went unheeded. While the front part of the two-story structure remains standing, the rear portion completely collapsed, trapping several people beneath the rubble.
Upon receiving news of the incident, firefighters from the Bhiwandi Fire Brigade quickly arrived at the scene with three fire engines to initiate a rescue operation. The four injured residents are currently receiving treatment at Al-Moin Hospital, according to officials.
Sachin Dubey, the team officer of the Target Disaster Response Force (TDRF), commented, “We arrived at the scene around 1:30 am and successfully rescued six occupants who were trapped under the debris. The injured have been transported to a hospital for medical attention.”
