AAP Announces Lok Sabha Candidates, Including Three Sitting MLAs, for Delhi Elections

AAP's decision follows a recent seat-sharing agreement with its ally Congress in Delhi, with AAP fielding candidates in four constituencies and Congress in three.

AAP Announces Lok Sabha Candidates, Including Three Sitting MLAs, for Delhi Elections

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has unveiled its candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, naming three sitting legislators among the four contenders in Delhi. The decision was reached following a meeting of the party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) earlier today, presided over by AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal.

In Delhi, AAP has strategically fielded candidates in the New Delhi, South Delhi, West Delhi, and East Delhi constituencies. Somnath Bharti, MLA from Malviya Nagar, will contest from New Delhi, while Mahabal Mishra will represent the party in West Delhi. Kuldeep Kumar, MLA from Kondli, has been nominated for East Delhi, and Sahiram, MLA from Tughlakabad, will stand in South Delhi.

The selection of candidates for Delhi seats holds significant importance for AAP, given the BJP’s sweep of all seven Lok Sabha seats in the capital in the previous general elections.

AAP’s decision follows a recent seat-sharing agreement with its ally Congress in Delhi, with AAP fielding candidates in four constituencies and Congress in three.

Additionally, AAP has named Sushil Gupta as its candidate for the Kurukshetra constituency in Haryana.

Beyond Delhi, AAP and Congress have also finalized seat-sharing arrangements in Haryana, Gujarat, Chandigarh, and Goa. However, they were unable to reach an agreement in Punjab, where AAP plans to contest all 13 Lok Sabha seats.

Speaking on AAP’s strategy in Punjab, Delhi Environment Minister and AAP leader Gopal Rai stated, “The names of Lok Sabha candidates (of AAP) in Punjab will be released soon.” This move indicates AAP’s intent to independently contest in Punjab, highlighting the party’s regional aspirations and electoral ambitions.
