After TMC, AAP to boycott new parliament inauguration ceremony, Congress likely to follow

Aam Aadmi Party has said that they will boycott the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building on May 28. This comes after Trinamool Congress announcing that they will boycott the ceremony as well. “Aam Aadmi Party will boycott the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building on 28th May. AAP has taken this decision in view of the questions being raised regarding the matter of not inviting the President to the inauguration ceremony,” the party’s statement read.

It is also being reported that Congress is likely to boycott the ceremony as well.

Earlier, Congress objected to PM Narendra Modi inaugurating the new parliament instead of President Draupadi Murmu. President of the Indian National Congress Mallikarjun Kharge tweeted, “It looks like the Modi Govt has ensured election of President of India from the Dalit and the Tribal communities only for electoral reasons. While Former President, Shri Kovind was not invited for the New Parliament foundation laying ceremony…The President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu is not being invited for the inauguration of the new Parliament Building. The Parliament of India is the supreme legislative body of the Republic of India, and the President of India is its highest Constitutional authority.”
