On Tuesday morning, a traditional ‘Aarti’ ceremony took place at the Shri Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai in preparation for Ganesh Chaturthi, which also falls on Tuesday. A large gathering of devoted worshippers congregated at this centuries-old temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha, marking the beginning of the ten-day celebration.
As a festive spirit enveloped Maharashtra and various parts of the country, individuals were busy adorning their homes with floral decorations and rangolis, as well as bringing Lord Ganesha idols into their households. Markets and streets buzzed with activity as people rushed to make last-minute purchases for the upcoming festivities.
Shopkeepers reported brisk sales of decorative items, lighting, lamps, dinnerware, and clothing, while street vendors peddled flower garlands, fruits, sweets, and ‘Matoli’ items like betel nuts, local citrus fruits, coconuts, and incense. Exquisite Ganesh idols, crafted by artisans and students, eagerly awaited placement in pandals (temporary structures for worship).
The Ganesh Chaturthi festival is an annual event celebrated with tremendous enthusiasm, drawing thousands of devotees to temples and pandals for a glimpse of the Lord. The ten-day celebration culminates in elaborate immersion processions on Anant Chaturdashi.
