Activist Vineet Jindal Lodges Complaint with Ethics Committee Over RS Chairman Mimicry Controversy; Calls for the Expulsion of Kalyan Banerjee and Other MPs

After the mimicry incident where suspended TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee imitated Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar outside Parliament, Advocate and Social Activist Vineet Jindal filed a complaint with the Ethics Committees of both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha.

Jindal’s complaint urges the expulsion of the suspended TMC MP, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and other involved MPs. Banerjee mimicked Vice President Dhankhar during the opposition’s protest on the Parliament stairs on Tuesday, drawing strong condemnation from the ruling BJP.

In his complaint, Jindal asserts that this event qualifies as an extreme case of misconduct by house members, warranting action from the Ethics Committee. He specifically targets TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, Rahul Gandhi, and other MPs for making defamatory remarks, mocking, and mimicking the Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice-President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, during house proceedings.

Jindal deems such actions highly derogatory, offensive to the dignity of the House and its members, and inconsistent with the expected standards. He emphasizes that such misconduct is a dishonor and disregard for parliamentary rules and etiquette. The opposition leaders’ failure to abide by the principles of conduct laid by the Ethics Committee, especially indulging in mocking the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, has brought disrepute to the parliament and raised questions about their credibility.

Citing the Rules of Conduct and Parliamentary Etiquette, Jindal points out that the House has the right to punish its members for misconduct, even expelling them in extreme cases. He notes that these members, who have a history of indulging in acts of misconduct, have become habitual offenders, showing no regard for suspension punishments.

Jindal’s complaint requests the Ethics Committees of both Houses to take action against the involved MPs, potentially including expulsion. In conclusion, the complaint emphasizes the gravity of the matter, stating that the acts of the suspended and some other members intentionally aim to lower the dignity of the constitutional post of the Vice President of India and the Chairman of Rajya Sabha.
